Pages: 467 pages

Length: 1 month (May)

Participants: Lorraine, Beth, Kristy, Cordelia

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Here are some questions to help get the conversation started! Feel free to look up discussion questions specific to this book or come up with your own. Just make sure any questions that contain spoilers are under spoiler tags.
Discussion questions are not required but may be a fun way to talk about the book and get to know each other!

Prior to starting:
What prompted you to join this buddy read?
Have you read this author before? What do you think of their other books?

Mid-read:
What character or ideas do you relate to the most and why?
Do you have any favorite quotes or scenes?

After reading:
What was enjoyable or not-so-enjoyable about this book?
Did this book change your perception about anything, either within the book (character development) or in real life?

Lorraine | 2401 comments I'm so happy you’ve decided to join me in reading the Charlie Parker series by John Connolly! I won’t be rereading Book 1, as I just finished it for the second time back in February, but I’m definitely here to chat and share thoughts if you have any questions along the way.

This is my all-time favorite series—though The Hunter series by Chris Carter comes in as a very close second. One of the things I love most about Charlie Parker is how the author allows him to evolve over time. And just wait until you meet Angel and Louis—a truly unforgettable duo!

But what really sets this series apart, in my opinion, are the villains. Connolly has created some of the most chilling, memorable antagonists I’ve ever encountered. Honestly, the bad guys in the Malone or Sigma Force series seem almost tame in comparison.

Be prepared for plenty of action—Charlie seems to attract trouble wherever he goes! And a little heads-up: to fully enjoy the series, it helps to suspend disbelief now and then, as there’s a supernatural thread running through the story.

I really hope you enjoy this series as much as I have, and I’m looking forward to reading Book 2 alongside you!

Cordelia (anne21) | 111 comments I've just finished this. It certainly is very, very good. I gave it 5*

Lorraine | 2401 comments I’m happy that you liked it.

Beth | 1612 comments I finished this yesterday. I really enjoyed it. Parker is a tortured, trouble soul, and he reminded me of Cal Rogan, a junkie ex-detective written by Robert French (highly recommend that series!). I am looking forward to the next book.

Strong story, interesting characters, and very well written.
