At different times in our lives we read together. A parent to children. A child to person teaching to read. Sometimes friends read a play together or short stories together. A lover reads to the beloved. A caretaker reads to their sick person. Sometimes we read in quiet companionship.

What are some ways you read or have read with others?

Melanie | 59 comments Some ways I have read with others include silent book clubs, reading sprints/ readalongs, and buddy reads. I can't wait for the day I can read with my future children. :)

I would read to the family cat, but she will have none of it. She will only watch me dance if Selena music playing. Human antics are so boring, really.

My boy (soon 40) loved the voices I did for the different characters. I read to him until he was 10. I am glad we read To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee and various Books of the Bible. I wish I had read Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. He would loved it. Children grow up and want to do things on their own. It is the right and good way of things.

Kate | 675 comments I read to my niece (3) and nephew (5) yesterday. They were sitting with me on the sofa and I read them a Spiderman story! I love it that they come up to me with a book and ask me to read with them. I hope they continue to love reading as they get older.

Ann A (readerann) | 909 comments I absolutely loved reading to my kids back in the day, and am hoping for grandkids soon so I can continue that!

I also feel like readathons are "reading together" and love the companionship in knowing we all love books and are celebrating that at the same time.

Sarah (morr_books) | 116 comments I am reading a chapter a day of The Mill on the Floss with people on Litsy and I was just in a group text with a couple friends who I have convinced to read with me this morning and we discussed what we are reading - all very different types of books.

I used to read to my son until he was 6.

I am part of several virtual book clubs and take part in buddy reads and that is all the reading together I do.

Yes. Thank you. Reading group reads and buddy reads are reading together!

Taya Fosmire (bibliotaya) | 41 comments back when my husband and I were just dating, before bed over FaceTime, I would read aloud to him and we would call it "story time" once we had started living together we continued story time for a little bit and we would each take turns reading to one another, alternating chapters.

Lamilla | 868 comments My dog is with me during the reading sprints, but it is the most she can tolerate. If I start reading aloud, I'm afraid she might start to whine in unison :D

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2506 comments I read to my 15-month-old. He LOVES books, just like his mama. His favorites are Are You My Mother?, Little Bear's Little Boat, Barnyard Dance, and a personalized book called My Amazing Dog Ezri Starring Bastien.

I grew up reading with friends, mostly. My mother read to me before I could read myself, this book I remember fondly called Caps For Sale (which definitely dates how old I am lmao). I've always done book clubs, even with just two people, but mostly silent reading. My father and I used to talk about some of our reading, though he was less interested in fiction than I am. Currently, one of my closest friends and I are (re)reading the Malazan series, which has helped kickstart his reading habit. (We just finished book 7!)

Vanessa Dargain | 528 comments I work as a nanny and have great fun reading all the nutty books written for children with my charges .

Vicki Willis | 585 comments I am a 2nd grade teacher so I read to children all day every day.
I try to give them a love of books like I have.
Of course when my own children were little, I read to and with them as well.

Cathy (cathepsut) | 664 comments Buddy reads only! I was in a RL bookclub for a while, but I was the only heavy reader and the club kinda died a slow death.
