INTRODUCTION

Book Monopoly is just the readers’ version of the popular board game! If you don’t know what monopoly is, it is basically a game where the players roll a dice to reach different destinations on the board. Once you reach a destination, the player (if they have the money) can “buy” it so that when other players land on the same place, they have to pay rent to the player who bought it!

THE GAME

╰ Each team starts with $1500 and earns a salary when you pass a purple space

╰ The team captains / members roll the dice when it’s their turn (this should ideally be done within 1-2 days) and move their piece♟️ according to the number on the dice. (to know the technical side of things- how exactly we’re going to move it and stuff, scroll down)

how is it played
-there is a monopoly board, the link of it is linked after this message
-the dice will be rolled virtually by captains/co captains
-each team after rolling will usually take about 2-3 days to complete their turn and then captain/co captain will send a message in the turns once the turn is complete. if teams cannot complete in 2-3 days, an extension of a few more days will be given but the next team will roll and start their turn . we do this because the game will take too long otherwise...


╰ Once you land on a destination, here’s what you can do-

1. Buy a property

❥ You can only do this if the property has not been bought by anyone before
❥ you don’t HAVE to buy it, it’s just a choice. Decideif it is profitable, but if you do buy it whichever team lands on your property has to pay rent to you AND read a book that fits the prompts!
❥ Each property has a set of book prompts associated with it (this is where the book-related part comes in!)

lets say u land on a property the prompts are-
1. read a book w a red cover
2. read a book of the genre thrillers
3. read a book that has the word "the" in the title like eg. the coworker or the fear

❥ when its 30$/pgs u can choose between reading a book of minimum that pages or paying but when its 30$ + pgs that means u have to do both...


2. If it was already bought by someone else…
❥ Pay rent! - rent amount is on the game board (link after this message)
❥ Read a book that fits the prompts for the property <3


3. to buy houses
(if you havent played monopoly before you should probably skip this for now and we’ll explain it to you after we reach that stage)

❥ Just like the normal monopoly rules, if you buy an equal number of properties in a particular color, you can upgrade them one by one

(for example, I bought marvin gardens, ventnor avenue and atlantic avenue, I can now buy a house in any one. Once I buy 1 house in each, I can buy my second house in any one. Prices increase for the rent payers as you upgrade)



Earning of money (basically a reading challenge)
Any books that you read with or without the prompts (ur general monthly reads)

Books used for Salary: $0.10 per page
this is to be deposited in the team _ tab in the game board where you deposit up to 10 books. you calculate the money earned per book as 0.10 x pages= amount in dollars.

okay so when your team lands on any tax space, you must read any book from the list given (its on the board) as well as pay the amount

JAIL
okay so you have to spell out jail, basically read 4 books, many members can do this

LIBRARY
A team landing on this space may read a book of their choice. You will receive money based on your page count. Every 5th land on this space will have to pay a library fine (based on your page count).

❥ Your team's Net Worth is based on the current Bank Account Balance and the sum of all Properties and Houses Owned. Properties and Houses are valued at their purchase price. (for example: Mediterranean Avenue with 2 Houses holds a value of $60+$50+$50=$160)

If you dont have enough money in your account:

1) mortgage any owned properties but you CANNOT COLLECT RENT on the mortgaged property
to un-mortgage the property: check the title deed card on the game board and see how much the amount is plus interest. (for example: The mortgage value of Baltic Ave is $30, so you would need to repay $33 to the bank)

2) if u have houses, you can sell AT HALF PRICE TO BANK all the buildings but equally which means if i have 2 houses on property 1 and 2 houses on property 2 (in a colour set) i sell one house of property one but i cannot sell another of property one unless i have sold a house of property

3) u can take a loan with 5% interest (every week)

important note
general requirements of a book
❥ at least 100 pages
❥ can be in any language as long as it meets the criteria
❥ graphic novels r allowed but pages= edition no of pages x 0.5
❥audiobooks are also allowed and pages r calculated by:
Pages = (Minutes x 150) ÷ 250
e.g.: 4hr 15m = 255 minutes x 150 = 38,250 words ÷ 250 = 153pgs

❥ info for library,salary or community chest/chance/ballot box

Books used for Chance/CC/Ballot Box: Deposit or Debit calculated at $0.30 per page
