Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4155 comments I've started, but have only read the preface so far 😆

I expect this will actually take me a couple of weeks, as I'm spending most my time on Decline and Fall at the moment.

No worries, I'm all over the place right now.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4155 comments Tell me about it. These two are my only planned print books this month (I still have over 2000 pages in Decline and Fall, so it seemed prudent not to over-extend 😆), and I'm spending most of my time on my feet elbow-deep in packing tape, so definitely more of an audio time really!

Angie ☯ | 4143 comments Mod
I've started this one as well.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4155 comments So I've not had much chance to read yet, what with both my parents and my daughter visiting, but I've made a start at least.

Had to chuckle at the "He's at home's". I knew a couple of Quakers a while back, and they're nowhere near as puritanical as people seem to think they are 😆

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4155 comments I'm almost halfway, finally, and should hopefully be able to speed things up a bit soon, as I'll be finishing Decline and Fall in a day or two...

I learned something new though... never realised it was possible to right a capsized boat without being "rescued". That was kinda cool!

As for the whale attack, that was pretty spectacular, and I can see how it inspired the writing of Moby Dick. (One of my favourite books!)

I agree with you Sammy! I didn't know that was possible either, especially something bigger than a kayak or canoe!

The whale attack was something. I imagined the whale planning this attack well before it actually happened!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4155 comments I used to do kayaking at school! Safely in a swimming pool, lol.

lots of fun, and actually not that hard to get upright again, but then I wasn't fighting rapids or running away from sea monsters at the time, so that helps 😆

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4155 comments And done!

My main question is... How did the first people decide that the gunk they found in a whale's head was a good thing to shove in their lamps? I would love to know the thinking behind that one 😆

What I do not need to know, is any more detail about people eating each other. I was thinking of watching the movie after I was done (because Hemsworth!), but now I'm thinking I really don't need to see that.

Angie ☯ | 4143 comments Mod
Yep, same here!! Lol

I may still watch it (because Hemsworth!) 😆

I can't really say I liked the book, but I didn't hate all of it either!

I'm with you, Sammy, I didn't need major details about the cannibalism, a mention would have been enough for me. I understand it was that or die, but I get the picture completely with just saying they were forced to resort to that!

I watch all the crime shows - Criminal Minds, for example - while I have dinner and that doesn't bother me at all. Apparently, I don't do well with people eating each other though!!

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4155 comments That was pretty much exactly what I said in my review 😆

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 4155 comments On my personal ick-o-meter that one hits the bell soundly! lol.

Ok! Well, I am sitting here watching Criminal Minds: Evolution, while eating....and laughing hysterically!...I haven't read your review, but off to do it now!
