Nevil Shute is a fantastic writer. I read this book five years ago and loved it.

I'd like to recommend Baba Dunja's Last Love by Alina Bronsky. The book takes place in Ukraine and the author is from Russia. It received really good reviews from one of my other book groups last year, but I haven't read it yet.

"Government warnings about radiation levels in her hometown (a stone’s throw from Chernobyl) be damned! Baba Dunja is going home. And she’s taking a motley bunch of her former neighbors with her."

It won the "German Audiobook Award for Best Interpreter (female)" award in 2016 and was nominated for a few others, including making it as far as the shortlist for the Dublin Literary Award.

I have only read one of his, A Town Like Alice, and loved it!

Oh, I loved A Town Like Alice.

I also loved A Town Called Alice and haven't read a Bahrain book yet, so I'm down for Round the Bend as well :)
