After many years of Kindle use, I'm seriously thinking of switching to Kobo - probably the Kobo Clara. I'll keep my Kindle Paperwhite for the moment, to work my way through my TBR list on there, but all new ebooks will be bought for Kobo.

Does that make sense? Does anyone have any advice, suggestions or warnings?

I bought a refurbished Kobo Nia when I heard Amazon was taking away our ability to transfer purchased ebooks (even those without DRM) to other ereaders. I still use my Kindles too, because there are series I follow that are on Kindle Unlimited which means they are exclusive to Amazon. However, I have my computer set up now so that until Amazon changes their encryption again I can still transfer my purchases. I can give details if you need them.

I like my Kobo. Things I miss from my Kindle are mostly the integration with Goodreads and the Send To Kindle app for epubs that I got from somewhere other than Amazon. Buying from Kobo goes directly to my Kobo, but I have to side load other ebooks. There’s a website you can use that says it will get your ebooks onto your Kobo but since it isn’t a Kobo website I’m not going to use it.

I don’t fully trust Kobo not to change their minds eventually or remove ebooks from my Kobo, the way that Amazon does, however periodically I download my new Kobo purchases and add them to my Calibre library, with all my epubs from elsewhere and my transferred books from Amazon, so that I’ll be set if I decide to transfer again, or perhaps jailbreak one of my Kindles and install KOReader on it.
