As I read this novel, I am reminded of the Earthseed duology by Octavia E. Butler: Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents. Anyone else getting some connections, some stronger, some less so?

The strongest connection I see: (view spoiler)[Strong woman as (somewhat) leader who uses an especially designed vehicle to cross the American Southwest. (hide spoiler)] But this could be common enough motif not worth noticing. It is just I am not familiar with more serious science fiction. I want to become a more familiar though.
