Just started reading "The Time Machine". It is interesting how H.G.Wells talks about the nature of space and time like a scientist trying to explain it to laymen. Space and time as concepts existed in physics even before the time of Newton but were not really talked about much until the first decade of the 20th century when Lorentz, Einstein, Minkowski and Poincare (to name a few) came into the picture. Considering H.G.Wells's novel was published in 1895, is it possible that he knew the cutting edge theoretical physics of his time? We see that time as something that can be transformed came up in 1887 itself as we can see in this paper https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/201....
Would be interesting if we come to know what was Wells' actual knowledge on this subject.
