Dystopian Society discussion

Hallo! I hope you all are back having a great day.
After finishing 1984, I’ve been thinking of buying more dystopian books. I came across “We” by Yevgeny Zamyatin.

I’ve checked the reviews and people consider it “hard to read” or “plainly boring”, other says it’s “way better than 19” or “one of the best dystopian books of all times. I know the language might be fairly harder to understand because of how old the book is; anyone that has read it, would you recommend it to me? Thank you!

I’ve been curious about We for ages because it comes up so often in conversations about foundational dystopian fiction. I’d be really interested to hear whether people think it still feels fresh and emotionally engaging, or more important historically than as a reading experience.

hello! ive finally read it, and it has come to my conclusion that 1984 is a very polished version of we. personally i liked we more than 1984, but both are still great books. it is not boring at all, actually i consider that that opinion stems from which translated version youre reading. penguin has very good translation when it comes to books, but i didnt read their edition but instead GO's press edition. personally i consider it was fine but maybe a russian native speaker can disagree.
the writing is pretty fine in my opinion, but there's a lot of mathematical terms you really wont get and maybe not even important (just like brave new world with their crazy science stuff), the main character goes through an identity crisis while the "julia" in we is extremely similar to the one in 1984.
the plot is similar to 1984 yet again, but the futuristic world this book shows and how society is controlled yet again contrast and sometimes overlap. i dont really wanna spoil how the dystopian stuff works in we so i leave it to yourself that you read it!
