Hannah | 3399 comments It took a while for me to get into this book which was based on the real life "Bandit Queen" Phoolan Devi who formed a Robin Hood style gang that stole from the wealthy and shared this with those in poorer, lower-caste villages. She would also later go on to hunt and kill rapists. In this book the protagonist was Geeta, a widow in a small village in India who was believed to have killed her good-for-nothing husband. Because of this, women come to her for help in getting rid of their own husbands who are rapists and child abusers among other things. I was not that sure what to make of this book. It deals with such serious problems of wealth inequality, domestic abuse and child molestation, but it does it in a way with a lot of dark humour and scenarios that were often over-the-top. The book was both funny and sad at the same time, but I did like finding out more, and seeing how the women in the village came together to overcome the discrimination they faced.

Joy D | 10460 comments I had similar feelings. Such an odd mix of dark humor and serious issues.

Sue | 2771 comments My review for this book started the same way - it took me awhile.

I ended up enjoying the dark humor, but it's certainly an odd book.
