Nadia Jeelani-Socia | 3 comments So far, in the first quarter of the book I appreciated the concern when birds get sick by feeders. It made me reflect more on if we put out the bird feeders for our entertainment or for the birds health. When outbreaks happen with birds we can always take precautions for their health. Thanks Amy Tan for the perspective!

Jessica Mann | 8 comments My Review: This is a beautiful book and Amy Tan’s love letter to birds — which I can appreciate, as a fellow lover of birds! She is a very talented artist as well as writer, and the book does a wonderful job of documenting her thoughts and observations. I gave the book 4 stars only because I found it a bit slow at times - perhaps it could have been shortened.

However, the absolute BEST thing about this book is that a famous author like Amy Tan — with her following and platform — would have the bravery to go out on a non-fiction limb like that to show people that birds are intelligent, emotional beings. She has probably given birds their biggest boost in many year, as I see Backyard Bird Chronicles showing up in all kinds of media that would hardly have cared before about nature or birds. So, bravo, Amy!
