Say more. What book did you read? What about it didn't suit you?

Karen (xkamx) | 582 comments One of my favorite series of all time. I devoured book 21 when it hit shelves in April. While I liked some entries more than others, I have never been disappointed in any books in this series. I love main protagonist, Clare, and her posse (her baristas, her ex, and her ex mother-in-law), which covers all age groups, includes artists, actors, poets, etc. The cast rounds out with her daughter Joy (who runs their DC location), Joy's detective boyfriend, Emmanuel Franco (who works with Clare's beau), and Clare's beau, Detective Mike Quinn. I love how New York City--its architecture, its people, its weather, etc.--is almost like another character in itself,

The mysteries are well-crafted and involving. With clues and red herrings, you're kept guessing as to who done it and why. The cozy story mainly centers on Clare's life, but all the main characters are included. I like the romance aspects as well.

I know some people complain about the "coffee talk," but I don't mind it. I can almost smell the coffeehouse and it's offerings as I read the books. I enjoy the recipes, too.

The next addition cannot come soon enough for me. =o)

Meg (makeli2) | 1544 comments Okay, Karen said it better than I ever could. 😊 This is one of my series that I'm current on (I, too, read the latest shortly after it came out). I'll be impatiently awaiting the next.

Alice | 761 comments I finished On What Grounds and very much enjoyed it. Well written with wonderful characters. I loved all the coffee chatter made me what to go out and get a latte. Loved the cat Java. Great name for a cat. I will continue with this series.

Thank you, Meg!

Becky | 215 comments I tried a recipe from this series - I think it was one of the earlier books. It was SO good! I can't remember which book or recipe but the coffee had caramel & chocolate. SO good!

Kim | 3 comments I finished this book a couple of days ago and found it an enjoyable read. It was a bit slow getting to the actual story though. It was as if I was reading two different books. One a treatise on coffee and another about a murder mystery. The former tended to interrupt the flow of the overall story, especially the first half of the book. Still worth a read. I'll probably check out other books in the series.
