Dear best-selling fiction authors,

Where did your editors go?
Yes, you know what I’m talking about. Life as a book reader seems to always wind back up at: finding an incredible fantasy collection, committing to buying the books... and at some point, the plotlines become predictable, the writing less amiable.

WHY DO THEY KEEP WRITING BOOKS IF THEY DON’T HAVE A STORY TO TELL?

It seems as if first they think of publishing, and only afterwards the story. Are their editors offering deals because they trust it will be profitable either way? Do they feel pressured to publish due to their fan bases? We will wait for you! Don’t fall into the trap of everything suddenly having a faster pace. Book readers will wait — because they have to.

Rebecca Yarros, this seems addressed to you, but it is not just to you. I have lived this disappointment countless times — starting with Allegiant (Divergent), or the last Cassandra Clare collection.

By no means does this mean I want these authors to stop writing. But PLEASE, take your time. We have seen the wonders you can do, with tears, laughs, and blushed cheeks. A book is a work of art that should be painstakingly reviewed.

It is with great regret — and quite possibly with astonishment from the Clara that read Fourth Wing — that I confess my final status for this book is: DNF.

Is it a complete mess? No, not nearly. But she can do better.

With no means of offense,
Clara

P.S. I want to know if anybody shares this POV, or if I'm just being unnecessarily demanding.

No, you're not on your own. I think the problem is the trend towards spreading a one-novel plot over three or more books - trivia needed to pad out the plot just weighs it down.

I agree entirely, and the fact that this series is supposed to be a five-book series scares me. If the plot fell off this bad and became so repetitive, then surely the two books following 'Onyx Storm' are doomed to be disasters. I've posted my reviews for all three books so far, and 'Onyx Storm' if anyone wants further details.
