Hi! I’m trying to find a Black romance novel I read sometime between 2010 and 2014. I don’t remember the title or author, but I clearly remember the plot and would love help identifying it.
The story is told from both the man’s and woman’s perspectives (dual POV).
It starts with the man and woman meeting in a grocery or convenience store. They flirt and have witty banter. Later, she shows up at a party or event at his house — she’s dating his best friend. The man turns out to be married with one or two kids.
The chemistry between the man and the woman builds throughout the book, and even though they try to avoid having an affair, they eventually do. It’s emotional, dramatic, and intense. Eventually, both the wife and the best friend find out about the affair.
The story ends with the man and the woman trying to leave town together. At the train station, the best friend sees them and fires a shot. The book ends right there — we don’t know if anyone was hit or what happens next.
It was a romance with dramatic elements, and I think it was contemporary (not historical). It might’ve been traditionally published or indie — I read a physical copy, but I can’t remember where I got it.
If this sounds familiar to anyone, I’d really appreciate your help. It’s been stuck in my head for a long time, and I’d love to reread it. Thank you in advance!
