Happy July 1st!

Has anyone started DEATH OF THE AUTHOR? Finished it? Requested from library? Read any other books by this author?

Charlie (charfield) | 1 comments I actually just finished this book yesterday, I wasn't paying attention to the fact we were reading it 😭but I liked it a lot!

Augusta (heyitsaugusta) | 2 comments I read it a few months ago. It's quite interesting! I think there are so many compelling points that it argues.

Augusta & Charlie, was this the first book you read by this author? If not, how does it compare to the others. Better, not as good?

Augusta (heyitsaugusta) | 2 comments I've read a bunch of her work. I've enjoyed others more, but I think what she set out to do with this one was more interesting.

Thanks for this. I had heard from some others who have read her work who said much the same.

First time reading this author, almost done with the book *( just about to got to space), very interesting can not wait to see what the spin is at the end.

Erica P (msefelps) | 4 comments Halfway through the book and so far I’m loving the vivid descriptions of this afro-futuristic landscape for the rusted 🤖.

The author will be at the 2025 National Book Festival on September 6th. Festival line-up just announced.

MysticMoods | 7 comments I've just finished Death of the Author and really enjoyed it. I've read a number of Nnedi Okorafor books and they are always thought provoking. This was interestingly different from her other stories but you can hear the author's voice throughout! Great stuff!

Payal (pachinkostan) | 1 comments Just finished it, I had no idea what I was coming into, but really enjoyed how it wrapped altogether. The different sections at first seemed so disparate but I liked the few parallels that started popping up throughout the book.

Catherine | 4 comments Just finished the book and OMG. I’m unfamiliar with the writer as I’ve never read any of her books but will go into more of her work. I LOVED the Afro-futuristic themed set in Nigeria. It was black EVERYTHING! The discussion of black erasure in movies and culture is something that has been discussed for decades now but still keeps happening. Diving into fame in a time where social media can be a blessing and a curse while still trying to maintain autonomy and authenticity of yourself and what makes you you was what steered this book. Fighting against her loved ones who should be the people who know her best versus individuals she has never met online. I could go on for DAYS… this books was amazing.

Heather | 17 comments I just started! Haven't read this author before.

message 18: by Meg (new) - rated it 4 stars

Meg (getnothingdone) | 2 comments I read this just after publication and enjoyed it and thought about it for quite a long time afterwards. I didn’t love the writing style because I prefer more flowery prose I guess but that’s just my personal taste, but the discussion of disability and the limitations that society puts on you, plus what everyone else mentioned so far was really interesting and important imo
