this is my very brief review: NO SPOILERS
Oh, Lisa Jewell, why do you do this to me? A total "page-turner" that I could not put down and made me not want to leave my house until I finished it.. Absolutely loved this twisty story told in multiple voices that is Jewell's signature. How someone as nice as you thinks up these kinds of stories, I"ll never know!Highly recommend!

lol, carol! what can i say? :)

Sherry - I have to agree with your five-star assessment. The book kept me up waaaay too late last night and I finally turned in with thirty minutes remaining to finish today.
I loved it even as the actions of the sociopathic predator sickened me.

I was starting to despair that the various victims who were so deluded would ever see through this charlatan.
He was so despicable it seemed unreal that he was not caught or at the least on the radar of the police.
I found it interesting how the entire search for clues was an amateur effort by friends and family of the victims and cheered at the confrontation at the beach.
I doubted immediately that he could have he drowned; he seemed to be made of Teflon. His escalation and the scope of his crimes was eye-popping.
I didn't see the final scene and most satisfying end coming; that final betrayal of Simon/Nick/Al, /Damien by Amanda who had apparently called in the police was so perfect. She and Jessie (the client of his services as a male escort that he attacked to steal from) were very brave to involve the police at the risk of their own reputation (Jessie) and freedom (Amanda)

I was with the plot up until the torso was found. I just don't buy Nick/whoever's wife/partner helping with that deed. Maybe it will get explained later, but I thought "... uh, there's not enough charisma/devotion in the world to make me do THAT...."
Back to finish the rest, which I am really enjoying. I'm already googling Lisa's other books to see if I want to queue them up....

End
I agree, it was quite thrilling the way all the "victims" came together in a confrontation at the end. Ash and her pals were so brave to do all that investigating, I was really afraid for them at various points.
A couple of questions:
Nick/Al stopped and got out of the car on his way somewhere (to the confrontation?), saying he had to pee, and he presumably hid something there. Was it the money he had pulled from the bag he extorted from Jesse, something else?
How the hell did he survive walking in the ocean with a dozen people watching him and not seeing where he went? And then survive? Did he underwater swim somewhere and then surface further down the beach? Return to get the money or whatever he hid? I may have to re-read that part.
The plotting was so clever, I was surprised at how devious Nick was, how he snowed so many women into putting up with his preposterous disappearing behavior, how he fell out of "love" and into love with the next victim. Interesting twist, if he is to be believed, that he set out to kill Paddy, victimize Nina and return to his "true love" Martha. I thought he thought Nina was his newest true love. I guess he (or LJ) snowed even me! It was quite the eye-opener, seeing his initial encounter with Paddy in Paddy's restaurant, the encounter that so enraged Nick that he set off on this murderous revenge tour.
I knew he had to be responsible for Paddy's accident, that couldn't have been a coincidence, but couldn't work out how with a confession from the perpetrator. He almost had me believing Paddy was a flirtatious creep, although we got a different view from his adoring daughter, and another view when it was discovered that he (and Nina as well) both were having affairs.
That Lisa Jewell is one twisted or twisty gal! I'm definitely going to go back and read her books (in order, LOL, even though they are standalones) but my heart can't take it just yet. Currently listening to The Marble Hall Murders by Anthony Horowitz, much less stressful, lol.
Spoilers welcome on this topic.
