The Christian Authors Group discussion

Hello, my name is Emani Edwards and I am excited to join this group of Christian authors. I am a newly published author who writes middle grade fiction and young adult fiction. I have a strong belief that a young person or anyone can be moved closer to God through a story. I am looking forward to learning more from all of you throughout these discussions.

Twelve-year-old Kai Aka is afraid of everything from surfing to singing in public to even swimming in the ocean near his Hawaiian home. Kai longs to be like his brave parents and his daring best friend, Evan. His parents keep telling him that God can make him brave, but Kai isn’t so sure that God can give him courage for anything. His fear of the unknown is the ultimate reason why he is not looking forward to staying at his Aunt Liliana’s house with his siblings, Carly and Ian, for a week. He would rather be practicing for his chess club for his upcoming school year.
However, Kai’s visit soon turns out worse than imagined when his beloved Maui home catches on fire. Along with his siblings and his aunt, he must try to escape the only home they’ve ever known. Soon Kai, Ian, and Carly are separated from their aunt and left to survive the spreading fire on their own. Will Kai be able to find God’s courage and survive? In this suspenseful and heartwarming middle-grade novella, Edwards shows that courage can be found only in one place.
