It's time for September's nominations. There is no theme for this month, and nominations are limited to two per person.

You are not required to nominate only novels, but can nominate non-fiction, poetry, plays and short stories.

Your nominations cannot have been read by the group in the past three years. You can check our bookshelf here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

You can nominate up to two works that are written by a woman and published before 1976. Please state whether or not you can lead the discussion.

Nominations will end on July 20th.

Carol, She's so Novel ꧁꧂ | 600 comments Can I nominate The Tenant of Wildfell Hall again. I can lead if necessary.

Mela (melabooks) | 14 comments If I can, I nominate Out of Africa by Karen Blixen. I would like to catch up with this classic.

Laura (loranne) | 246 comments I'm happy to read - Tenant of Wildfell - or Realms of Gold. So I won't nominate - I'll just vote. Great nominations ladies!!

Oooh, I wanted to nominate something like that, so I guess I'm going to just vote this time around!

Please vote by July 25th.

The choices are:

4. Out of Africa by Karen Blixen
5. Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
6. A Chelsea Concerto by Frances Faviell
7. Evalina, or The History of a Young Lady's Entrance Into the World by Frances Burney
8. Understood Betsy by Dorothy Canfield

Laura (loranne) | 246 comments I'm voting for Three Summers by Margarita Liberaki - I'm intrigued by this - a writer I've never heard of before. And also I lived in Cyprus for 20 years. I understand it is a popular book there, and in Greece.

But I'll join in for Tenant - Realms of Gold, and Evelina - if any of those win. Love the choices. And thanks to Nidhi and Kelly for their exciting nominations.

message 21: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (artemis-gunhilde) | 135 comments I would love to re-read Northanger Abbey or Tenant of Wildfell Hall (the first time I read it, I had got a copy of the abridged version by mistake) but I would also be really interested in Three Summers or Evalina, so I'm really torn on which way to vote.

message 22: by Jan (new)

Jan Z (jrgreads) | 473 comments Rereading NA would always be good

message 23: by Laura (new)

Laura (loranne) | 246 comments Hi Elizabeth, I'm all on board for a re-read of Tenant. I voted for Three Summers, but plenty of options that I would join in to read.

message 24: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 462 comments So many good recommendations this month! I haven’t been able to join in the group reads here for a while but look forward to seeing what wins. I’ll vote for the one I know least about—Understood Betsy.

message 25: by sabagrey (new)

sabagrey | 74 comments I'll vote for Northanger Abbey - the only JA I've never got far into; maybe I get a better start on it in the group.

September's book is Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

Laura (loranne) | 246 comments Yippee !!

Jassmine | 76 comments Charlene wrote: "September's book is Tenant of Wildfell Hall."

Cool! I read that one a year ago, so I won't re-read, but I might join in the discussion.

Carol, She's so Novel ꧁꧂ | 600 comments I'm really pleased about this as well!

I'm the nominator, but if anyone else would like to lead please let me know. I struggled with this book in the past, but I have read so much praise of it that I thought I would try one more time! :)

message 30: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 28 comments I would also join the tenant discussion

message 31: by sabagrey (new)

sabagrey | 74 comments I've read the Tenant not so long ago, so I'm not sure whether it's time for a re-read. Maybe the group discussion will be a good motivation to do so.

Tenant was also September's book back in 2016. So we just like to read it in September.

Maybe the change of seasons gives us long book energy 🤣❤️
