I, Mammal
question
Social Comparison: why do we have such strong feelings about it?

I think this book solves all the big dilemmas of our times. We have strong feelings about how we stack up against others because the mammal brain is designed to seek social power. We don't notice this in ourselves because it comes from the non-verbal part of the brain. But in other people, we can see how urgently they care about gains and losses in their social positions. When we know how this works in animals, we can just relax, because we know it's just old brain patterns rather than a real threat. I would love to hear your thoughts about this.
