Kyra ♡ ‧₊˚ | 45 comments Looking for “Weird Girl” book recommendations that make me uncomfortable (in a good way) ✨

Hi all you beautiful readers,

So lately I’ve been deep in my Weird Girl era™—and by that, I mean I want books that feel like they’ve crawled out of the subconscious of a girl who got kicked out of her MFA program for being “too much.” Think:
• Bunny by Mona Awad — cults, cupcakes, carnage, girlhood horrorcore. 🐇
• My Husband by Maud Ventura — one-sided mental warfare disguised as devotion. I was side-eyeing every page and loved every second. 💍
• Milk Fed by Melissa Broder — food, mommy issues, erotic froyo, general moistness. It made me say “ew” and then “same.” 🥛

I’m looking for recs that are:
• Unsettling and slightly feral
• Existentially funny or grotesque in a way that makes me giggle and then re-evaluate my entire personality
• Possibly smutty, definitely unhinged
• Romance tropes, Bonus points.
• Plot? Optional if the writing is top notch.

I want narrators who are unreliable, maybe mildly deranged, and definitely not invited to brunch. If your favorite character is the one everyone else hates, we’re probably soulmates.

Please, help me spiral deeper. I don’t want neat. I want icky, weird, and emotionally raw with a hint of camp.

Bless me with your chaos-lit 🙏

Ainslee Stueve | 6 comments Please please PLEASE if you’re interested in a weird girl book then read “What Girls Are Made of” by Elana K Arnold.
It is a serious look into the realities of being an obscure girl who grew up in a conditional love household. It is raw and sometimes a little vulgar, and that’s exactly why I love it. This book brings an insightful point of view to a girl who doesn’t fit in, and isn’t even necessarily a likeable character, but you get sucked in from the start. Even considering these aspects of the book, I found myself laughing out loud with the book, crying with it, and yelling about her decisions.
(There is some smut but it makes you re think your life, just like everything else is this book)

I’ve also heard “Nightbitch” is a great weird girl book, taking the perspective of a mother who starts to act peculiar, forming sharp canines and fur, slowly turning into a monster.

Tisha | 118 comments You can try reading the Addicted series - unhinged romance with addiction, obsession, and toxic codependency.
FMC is a sex addict. MMC - an alcoholic, and they’re in love in the worst/best way.
Messy, intimate, and so raw you’ll feel like you shouldn’t be reading it (but can’t stop).
Plot? Yeah, kinda. But it’s the emotional chaos that hits.

Larkin :) | 5 comments The Great Escape. People think I'm mad when I tell then that its a good book and they should read it but I like it because 1) ITS A TRUE STORY 2) THEY ACTUALLY MANAGED TO COMPLETE IT IN SPITE OF FULL OBSERVATION THE WHOLE TIME AND SOMEHOW HIDE IT FROM THEM 3) ITS WRITTEN LIKE FICTION
