Several of O’Farrell’s near-death experiences relate to the fact that she’s female. What role does gender play here?

Most of the experiences are about stalking, eve-teasing, child birth and miscarriages. It is so sad to see that if she had not been a woman, half the problems would not have occurred. This leads me to ponder about the world we live in and safety of women in today's world.
