This is the best info I could find. Sorry it's not more helpful...http://answers.google.com/answers/thr...
The following is imbedded in the above link, but is worth checking out...

Thanks, Vicki, that helps some! I'm just going to leave the quote alone. I think it's misattributed but I'm not sure, so I'll leave it alone until somebody who knows more about Poe stumbles across it.
I've read most of Poe's works for my American literature classes and I've never run across this quote from him. I still have his works saved to my computer and it's not in any of them. I'm thinking it should be removed unless someone can find where it's from.
Or maybe from a letter? I don't know. I was kind of hoping a Poe scholar would eventually stumble along this thread and list a definite statement for all posterity.

I found this quote attributed to Edgar Allan Poe, and I'm unsure if it's legit. The Internet at large popularly attributes it to Poe, but I can find no record of a primary source or any information on the work of Poe it would have come from.
Is anyone here more familiar with the quote? Or better at googling up a result? I'd hate to remove it from the GR quote database ('cause I find it to be awesome), but maybe that's the most appropriate action?
