Our dad used to read from a collected works of Brothers Grimm. From that book, our dad read Hansel and Gretel to us. . . . .Today I read Hansel and Gretel by Neil Gaiman ⭐⭐⭐. . . .in his short bibliography, NG reminds me of a book title I have wanted to read for a looong time Clever Maids: The Secret History of the Grimm Fairy Tales by Valerie Paradiž. The past and present have met today.
I was a library fiend as a little kid, and I always checked out Dr Seuss books every time we went. My mom was so patient, but she HATED my favorite one - On Beyond Zebra!. It drove her NUTS to read that one with me LOL
I kept getting into trouble at school for reading inappropriate books lol.I read adult horror in fifth grade and one day decided to bring in Anne of Green Gables. My teacher, obviously encouraged I was finally reading something appropriate, rushed over to gush she was so happy I was reading a book like that now and that it wasn't the normal stuff I read.
Dad would be ropable if I couldn't get up for school in the morning because he knew it meant I'd stayed up reading after being told to turn the light off & go to sleep.
Reading the tv guide after I had just learned how to read. My parents told me my favorite childhood show wouldn’t be on that day and I took the tv guide and showed them they were wrong. Will never forget the look on their faces 😂🤣
I remember my mum constantly having to take books off me at the dinner table. As soon as she did I would defiantly read the backs of cereal packets or sauce bottles, until she resorted to taking absolutely everything off the table except plates and cutlery. We had to get our tomato sauce from the side instead for a bit. She used to tell me that she wanted her baby to be a reader. Maybe bit off more than she could chew? :P
Jana I loved--no love--Dr Suess. My mom taught me to read by reading his books. Then I taught my two brothers and my son how to read using the Dr Suess books.
Yes to Dr Suess!
Yes to Dr Suess!

Yeah, my mom never believed me when she called me and I didn’t hear, she thought I just didn’t want to help out…
