Plot goes back and forth between modern times and middle ages. Somebody in the modern world stumbles upon a long forgotten disease (plague?). A wiccan or herbalist from middle ages was piecing together the cure. The modern day protagonists, through researching the medieval protagonists, try to discover the cure before it’s too late.

I think it was published around 10-15 years ago, which is about when I think I read it. It was a very good read.
Michael This sounds a bit like one of the Pern books by Anne McCaffrey I can't remember exactly which one. But that was a fantasy? Scifi? I've never figured out exactly WHAT that series is. :o)
If you think that it could have had dragons in it with telepathically bonded riders, say so and I'll get the correct title for you. I don't really think it is, but thought I'd mention it to you anyway.

Ann, that one is Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern. FWIW, the author considers them to be SF. I always used to cry when I got to the end of that one.
no--the one that I was thinking of was set in about the time of Moreta I believe--but it also had flash backs to the founding (settling??) of Pern. And even included some "wrapping up" from the "present" time in Pern.
Hey everybody, thanks for trying to help jog my failing memory. I finally figured out the title. It's The Plague Tales. It was a really good book, so if you're interested, check it out. I highly recommend it.
