Janice (jamasc) | 60833 comments In a galaxy far far away, and long long ago, there were lovable characters that we become enchanted with:

Chewbacca
Grogu (Baby Yoda)
Jar Jar Binks
R2-D2
Wicket the Ewok
Yoda

There were more, but I picked 6 to coincide with 6 letters in August. (Not that that is significant.)

For the August challenge, pick a character and read a book that starts with the same letter.

Example:
Chewbacca - The Calculating Stars
Grogu - The Girl on the Train

Ignore preceding articles like "the", "a", etc.

If those options don't appeal to you, read a book that has Space Opera as a mpg.

General Rules:

1. The book may be in any format - paperback, ebook, audiobook.
2. The book may be combined with the Year Long Challenge and the Group Themed Read.
3. The book must be started and read between August 1-31, 2025 (based on your local time zone).
4. The challenge is for one book. You may read more books if you chose but you need only report one.
5. The book must be 175 pages or more determined by the issue you read.
In the case of ebooks & audiobooks, the ebook edition must be at least 200 pages and the audiobook must be a minimum of 6 hours long.

Reporting:

List your WoF name, link to the book you read and tell us which prompt you chose. Also give us a small blurb about your reactions to the book.

Janice (jamasc) | 60833 comments Sorry to any Star Trek/Star Wars fans out there. But I goofed up. We're throwing back to Star Wars.

message 8: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19763 comments Oh funny, Janice. I didn't even register the mixup. I must have just swapped it in my head.

message 9: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60833 comments I was watching a video on social media the other day. It was a spoof on Star Wars, and it started off with a replica of the Enterprise flying through space. I should have bookmarked it. Of course, now I can't find it. I wanted to show I wasn't the only one mixing things up.

I've decided to go with R2-D2 and read Reel of Fortune. I think Miss Fortune is in good keeping with loveable and quirky characters.

message 10: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11762 comments Hmm, I have some possibilities:

Chewbacca
City of Girls
The Crone of Midnight Embers

Or, I could be really boring and use the group read:

Wicket the Ewok
The Witches of Moonshyne Manor

Miss Fortune is fun. I need to get back to that series. I'm still back on Gator Bait. Which I'm just realizing would also fit the challenge for Grogu.

message 12: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4115 comments *sigh* The book I just finished reading has 'Space Opera' on its main page.

Isn't that the way it works? :)

message 14: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4197 comments Planning to read Wish Her Safe at Home for Wicket the Ewok.

Alexandra (alex2911) | 842 comments Oh nice!

I’ll go with „Yoda“ and read You Gotta Have Balls. I’ve been wanting to read it for a long time now…

message 16: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11552 comments I'll go with Grogu, even though baby is my least favorite character.
Want to read this book soon.

The Giver of Stars

Karin | 410 comments Sounds good, but I'm leaving my options open at this point for which I do. I've only watched two of the movies, but have heard or read all of the stories via the William Shakespeare's Star Wars series. My dad took us to see the first movie in the theatre and we had to wait in line. All but the littlest one of us five kids.

We had no idea how big this would be or how long it would stay popular!

Chewbacca
Grogu (Baby Yoda)
Jar Jar Binks
R2-D2
Wicket the Ewok
Yoda

If those options don't appeal to you, read a book that has Space Opera as a mpg.

Jayme | 4760 comments I was reading Wandering Stars for Wicket the Ewok, but it is too sad and intense to read right now, so I am going to read The Collaborators instead for Chewbacca.
I guess I like my Star Wars characters furry!

message 21: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60833 comments Cuddly, not sad. :)

message 22: by Grainne (new)

Grainne | 1461 comments I was just talking about Star Wars recently. There's a wee island off the coast of Ireland where a part of it was filmed. It's a heritage site that can only be accessed by boat. Since Star Wars recorded there, it's become quite the tourist attraction for a small island. I read The Remains of the Day for R2-D2. Less cuddly but maybe smart?

I'm doing R2-D2 as well. Just started Reel of Fortune today.

Karin | 410 comments I'm doing Wicket the Ewok with Women's Intuition which I hope to finish tonight when I get home or tomorrow. R2 D2 is one of my favourites, but I'm not sure when I'll read a book starting with R.
