Sarah | 398 comments Hi all! I haven’t been reading a whole lot lately but this is what I’ve got on the go. At my bedside I have Funny Boy but by the time I go to bed I’m nearly asleep so I haven’t been getting too far. On audio, I got partly through The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams. I am only half way through and my audiobook expired from the library. I may not retake it bc although it’s such an interesting topic it just wasn’t holding my attention at this time. I may try again in the fall. I also have on audio The Tipping Point (Gladwell never disappoints) and Julia Fox’s Down the Drain(a friend recommended). Happy reading all!

Julia (juliaannreads) | 52 comments I didn't read much in July. I unfortunately got laid off at the beginning of July so it was mostly audiobooks and way too much Netflix because focus was not my friend!

I just finished the audiobook of The Fellowship of the Ring so I started listening to the The Fiancée Farce. I just received my copy of the latest in my beloved cozy series, the Cat in the Stacks series, Something Whiskered and started reading that.

Karin | 174 comments What I did not enjoy, even though I really liked the first two books in his Sleeping Giant series, was A History of What Comes Next by Sylvain Neuvel

That's all I've read by Canadian authors in the past few weeks.

Alan Scheer | 151 comments I can’t remember if I’ve already mentioned this but I loved Her First Palestinian. I picked it up because the title was so intriguing and it just turned out to be the best book I’ve read all year. It’s a first collection of short stories by a lawyer in Toronto who was born in Kuwait. There isn’t one bad book in the bunch which is extraordinary for a first collection. Many of the stories are very painful and moving. Really a phenomenal book. He won the Atwood prize through the Writer’s Trust a few years ago. I watched him being interviewed and that was fascinating too. He said getting up every morning and facing a blank screen is the hardest thing you can try and do. His upcoming book is a memoir. Very good writer.
