When Josie and Alix meet they discover that they share the same birthday, but that is where their similarities end. Alix is a popular podcaster and Josie approaches her with a story where Josie tells about her life. Alix is unsure, but feels that there could be something of interest in this.

During interviews Josie's talks about how she is misunderstood and has faced abuse. Alix starts to question this and several people end up dead. Alix also talks to others and gets the story from their points of view. But soon Alix is caught in the middle and the project becomes a true crime podcast.

Josie and her family are looked on as strange. The author does a good job of showing how they do not fit in and Josie's story is uncomfortable to hear. The author keeps the reader interested by having characters question each other's views. It is a fast read where by the end of the book the reader is not sure of all the facts.
