Read this about seven years ago and rated it highly, but found myself unable to comment upon it, because I wasn’t that sort of book for me.I recommend Smith’s Seasonal quartet of novels if you like this extended essay. I started Ali Smith’s work with Hotel World, which is one of my favourite books.
I finally got my copy and cracked it open today and am excited to get into this one. I have read a few of Smith's seasons quartet and have enjoyed her hard to pin down style/quality and how she weaves in existing history, art, etc. into the stories.
I'm halfway through Artful and now understand what Carlton described as the difference between this book and her seasonal novels. This is straight on autofiction and Smith makes it enjoyable for me as her characteristic capricious whimsy is on full display and it's a wild ride. Looking forward to seeing where it takes us.
I did the audiobook version and this was truly delightful. I would listen again. It made me think of my own experiences in a different way.
