barb was brought to the show just because they needed a minor character to die. Bob, however, didn't need to be killed off.

he kind of did need to be killed, so that joyce could have a romantic arc with hopper

Bob. He made Joyce so happy, and he was just an overall sweet guy...
I don't care what anyone says, Joyce is one of the best characters, and she deserves happiness, especially after everything.
