5.4 Labor Day

Labor day in the US is the 1st Monday of September. Labor day honors workers and their contributions. For a mother, it honors a different kind of labor and contribution.
Read a book where the main character is a mother.
Required: If the main characters motherhood is not evident from the Goodreads main page, provide a reference.

Kathy | 915 comments Would The Farm work? The main character is pregnant and thus a mother but I am unsure if she keeps the baby.

Does she give birth in the book? If so, that would be fine.

August (sarath595) Does Regency Christmas Liaisons work? It's three novellas in one book, and the MC in at least one novella is a mother. Not sure if this works since that would only be one-third of the book.

Julia (julia103) | 2786 comments Does The Last Twelve Miles work?
The description says "That secret weapon is a 5'2" mastermind in heels, who also happens to be a wife and mother: Mrs. Elizebeth Smith Friedman, one half of the husband-and-wife pair who invented cryptanalysis." But I don't know whether her motherhood has anything to do with the story.

I will have to say no to this one. The general rule is at least 50% of the book".

She is a mother, so that works

That's what I figured, but I wanted to make sure. Good thing I already had an alternate picked out!

Kaitlyn Lindsay (kaitlynlindsay) | 4 comments Would an ensemble cast book work if 2 of the main characters are mother/daughter (and the mother is at the center of the book's romance subplot), and an important secondary character is the mother of the third main character? Sorr,y it's convoluted, so I understand if it doesn't work LOL The book I am looking at is The House on Mermaid Point (The mother/daughter relationship is mentioned in the description)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 117 comments Would Breaking the Silence work as the story is about a mother, her daughter and her husband's suicide?

*sorry for the graphic nature of the book*

Joanne (joabroda1) | 1658 comments Kaitlyn, sorry this was missed. I would agree with the second book,; I do not know enough about the first book to say yes to it

message 12: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 1658 comments Fiona, I would say yes to this one

Marscha (mysterymb) | 435 comments Would a poetry collection (Beautiful Chaos: On Motherhood, Finding Yourself and Overwhelming Love) about the author's motherhood work? The author being the MC?

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3794 comments I'm wondering about A Room Full of Bones (Ruth Galloway #4) for this one, especially as it's the right season for it!

The GR blurb for this specific one doesn't mention her child but both book 3# The House at Sea's End (DCI Nelson is investigating, but Ruth finds this more hindrance than help as Nelson is the father of her daughter, Kate) and book #4.5 Ruth's First Christmas Tree (Until her daughter was born, forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway didn’t do Christmas, but now that Kate is a year old, she wants it to be special) do.

Will that be sufficient proof?

Yes, those would work as a reference.

C | 390 comments Checking if Pads, Purses, and Plum Pudding would work, as the FMC takes in the abandoned girl and mothers her? She isn't formally adopted by the FMC.

I see you got an answer but the child definitely appears in that book, which I read not long ago.
