10.10 Do They Exist?

October 20th is Cryptid day It's a day dedicated to celebrating and honoring cryptids, which are creatures like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster, that are part of folklore and claimed to exist but lack scientific proof.
Read a book where cryptids are essential to the story.
Cryptids on this list are accepted: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...
OR
A reference to cryptids (as a whole- non specific), cryptozoologist or cryptid hunter, on the book main page, or has a MPG cryptid or Cryptozoology.
Required: State the reference to Cryptids on the main page.
examples:

examples:
A Death in Door County - mentions cryptozoologist
Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre- mentions bigfoot story.
Discount Armageddon- mentions cryptid and cryptozoologist.

Specifically looking at The Sirens. I note that it never uses the word mermaid in the description, but the title and cover and description imply it. Is this enough?

What about dragons? Or are they straight fantasy?

The task has been updated to make this a little easier to define.

Kathy KS | 2416 comments I find that the link provided to Wikipedia doesn't seem to go to anything specifically about cryptids. Perhaps you meant: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of... ?

That's odd. I just clicked on the link in the task and the one you just posted and they both take me to the same page.

That IS odd. I originally tried several times, then went another route and found my link. But now they do both go to the same place! Sorry...

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3715 comments Morning.

Just double checking that I can use Pocket Apocalypse here

From the GR description: “Alexander Price has survived gorgons, basilisks, and his own family—no small feat, considering that his family includes two telepaths, a reanimated corpse, and a colony of talking, pantheistic mice. Still, he’s starting to feel like he’s got the hang of things…at least until his girlfriend, Shelby Tanner, shows up asking pointed questions about werewolves and the state of his passport. From there, it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to Australia, a continent filled with new challenges, new dangers, and yes, rival cryptozoologists who don’t like their “visiting expert” very much."

And the series description (https://www.goodreads.com/series/6112...) has: “Stories about a family of cryptozoologists.”

Thanks.

Djinn are not on the list given. This book doesn't work.

Will any book from this series work, as each one refers to a member of the family who is a trained cryptozoologist ( see Discount Armageddon, for example).

On the link, the cryptids have different names. I was wondering which name we were to use.

as long as it exists on the lists, you're good- it does need to be one of the names- not the description

Cryptids on the title? I'm assuming it will be about a range of cryptids

Joanne (joabroda1) | 1593 comments I gave this a lot of thought. The word is on the page, as required. I am going to approve it.

message 26: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Edgar (amandaedgar) | 36 comments I'm a little confused, does the cryptid have to be mentioned on the goodreads page for the book?

Outlander features a Loch Ness monster that is mentioned multiple times throughout the book and then is ultimately used against the main character during a witch trial (bc she interacted with it) but that's not in the summary of the book

JennRenee (jennreneeread) | 2961 comments Mod
If the cryptid is essential to the story, you can use the book. If its not in the summary or mentioned on the goodreads book page, you can provide a reference.

I have not read the book, but it sounds essential to me. I will approve this book.
