This time, we want to shine a light on underrated female authors. These are the writers whose work has inspired you, challenged you or stayed with you long after you finish the last page, but maybe don’t get the spotlight they deserve.

I have read all of the books by the great Tamora Pierce. My mother got me into reading young, and I tended to take books from her after she was done. Of the many different authors I grew up reading, Mrs. Pierce is one who shows females in lead positions fighting to protect and serve the people of the various places she has created. Her books are not just for young adults, but also for those who are young at heart, offering something for everyone. I strongly encourage even young people to read these books; she has some for young adults and more grown-up versions
