The story of a murder is narrated by Elliot Chase, a playwright who is deeply in love with a famous actress, Lana Farrar. He and Lana are good friends but she is married to another man. Every Easter Lana invites her friends to her private Greek island for a getaway from the dreary London weather. Along with Elliot and her husband Jason, Lana invited her best friend Kate who is secretly having an affair with Jason. It's not quite so secret, as Elliot is aware of their dalliance. He decides to use the secret to his advantage, dropping hints to Lana and eventually setting up an elaborate hoax to expose the cheaters and win Lana's love for himself. Things do not go quite the way Elliot planned and a murder is committed that stuns everyone.
I found the writing style inventive if a bit confusing. The buildup to the murder is lengthy and unexpected.
