sorry I'm a little confused so the books have to have the characters (Disney villains) in them?

No, the characters all have 8 tasks. You just have to read a book that fits one of those tasks.

1) Im in the middle of multiple books I probably won't finish before the first of September. Will those count if the start date is before the challenge? (Example: Im on 145/464 of Deep End)

2) If I read a book that completes a different villain not currently assigned, can I use it once that character is assigned? Assumed this is the Banked Books but want to clarify.

1) If you read over 100 pages in September, you can count that book towards a task in this challenge. If you read less than 100 pages, you will count the book towards page points only.

Also, when you post your book on your team's review thread, you will only add the number of pages read in September.

on planned buddy reads, I know that it is only open for 15 days following the last comment, but if it is a restart, is it 15 days from "new" start date?

For example....or for a specific situation question....and for future....

Ten Tiny Breaths was restarted as planned buddy read on 8/26/25 so 15 days would be until 9/10 but the last comment was May 2 or June 2 depending what "active" truly means.

Carrie - this one is fine to read. The confusion is that it was restarted while people were actively reading the thread. So the comments from the active participants are old, but the restart happened before the thread was inactive.

You are fine to continue to read. I will also comment on the thread as well.

one other question on this same question: if someone has added a comment about being behind or reading soon, does that keep it "active"?

Yes it does. Sometimes when people are behind they will comment and say "coming back" or "keeping alive" and then the time resets from that point. Here are the rules for Buddy reads:

Buddy Read Rules
*Buddy reads must take place within this group to count for bonus points
*You must have a buddy for a buddy read to count
***When asking for a buddy read thread, you MUST list the name of the person you are buddy reading the book with!
*Even if your buddy does not show up for the read you still get buddy read points
*Buddy read threads only last for 14 days after the thread start date or the last comment posted (whichever is later)
*If the thread you want to use is expired (past 14 days) you must find a new buddy and ask for the thread to be reset
*You must make a minimum of four comments on a buddy read to earn points

3) Speaking of wording, for the challenge requiring Manipulative to be used. Do the word tense matter, i.e. would manipulating count?

Example: I read Surrogate Mother but it completed a challenge for a character we hadn't been assigned yet. Should I have completed the review section?

1) Yes, you can move books around.
2) Is this for Scar? 'Book title is a song' task? I can't remember if I accepted partial titles for an actual song or not. So, sure—that can work.
3) I'm pretty sure I've allowed manipulating before. So, yes.
4) If you post for a character you don't have (yet), you can either wait to post when you get that said character. Or say "banked" when posting on the review thread.

Apologies for not seeing this until now. I would say no, it should be in the actual story.

Okay, so, that list won't work for this challenge or task. The reason why is because it's specific to the shelf vs a list or just anything off of the genre page.

Hii! Just curious - when would round two start since we have the practical magic challenge for October?

round 2 starts if you finish all the tasks in round 1.
The challenge ends on the last day of September so round 2 only starts if you get through all of round 1 before then.

Yes. The other option you have is status updates. Here are the rules on that:

*Reviews for books must be 4-5 sentences and must be your opinion of the book *NOT a rewritten synopsis*
*Five detailed status updates can be used in place of a review
