Hi,In the Description it says to recommend a classic Book when you join this group. So Books i really liked that were older (i dont really read the newest Books, because i usually get my Books second Hand for free)
-guliver‘s travels (Jonathan Swift) the original with all Four Islands is incredible!
- the visit (Friedrich dürrenmatt) - makes you question if you would be able to commit a murder.
- Sophies world (jostein gaarder) - philosophy made easy understandable. might Not be a real classic thou
Animal farm (George orwell) - i guess Most know what it is about.
I am new on this App and have no idea how it Works. But it was fun rating books i read.
Hi hanna! welcome to the group!!
im also new, but i already think GR is pretty neat. :) amazing strategy btw (no shame i do the same)
Out of those, ive only ever finished animal farm - (i think i started gullivers but never finished... whoops🫢) but the others sound super interesting - new TBRs maybe????
I swear we're super chill (because... um, i have no idea how to run an online book club lol)
soooo yeah. so glad you joined!!!

😄 you seem to be really nice. Tbr? Books i want to read? I would Like to read the third gilmore girl. If i dont stumble upon it, i will probably buy it for my holiday in november.
I liked the last two islands most in gulliver 😉.
What are your favourit books? If there is one I might like, i will read it. And tell you my thoughts about it while Reading. I Never read how to kill a mocking Bird.
It's all good! i am always looking for book recommendations and am happy to give you some!! These are sort of basic, but have you ever read Little Women or Anne of Green Gables?
Lets see.... this is not related to classics, but what are your favorite book genres? Mine are fantasy, romance, classics (duh) , and mysteries❤️
Yeah, sorry. TBR stands for To Be Read- you guessed it!🤣

I watched Anne of Green Gables on netflix, loved it! Watched it twice already 😅.But i would be in the mood of a surprise.
Little women by Louisa may alcott? I‘ve Not even heard of that author. Are you american?
I found it as an audiobook on youtube. I First want to finish stephen king „later“.
Favourit Book Genres? I can read a lot of different stuff… i like it, when there is some criticism on Society. And Thrillers. I love it, when the author makes me feel sympathetic with the evil sociopath or a twist which haunts me for a little while.I rarely like romantic novels… and fantasy. Every now and then i read something, But mostly i am Not really into it.
Historic can be really good and really boring, you never know before reading.
I loved Anne of Green Gables on netflix as well!!!!
Thats super fair: Romance and Fantasy can be good or they can be AWFUL! But hey, at least we can bond over our shared love of mysteries and thrillers, right?
Yes i admit it - im an american😬. you're german... right? ive always wanted to go to germany, it looks incredibly beautiful!!! Who knows if that'll happen, international travel being what it is at the moment😡 but we'll see.
Sorry, that got a bit violent. No politics, just books!! Yay reading!!!

I know that it is not recommended to travel to the usa, But that you have trouble to go somewhere is new to me.Germany is beautiful. Be aware that germans value truth over politness. Maybe that is why we come off as rude 😅. But i promise we are not! Thats what makes different cultures interesting… and most of us speak a pretty decent english (at least good enough for small talk).
I was in new york and did a trip from San Francisco to Seattle. I loved red wood forest and Even more crater lake in Oregon !! But my favourit spot was alice in wonderland in central Park 😍
I started „Little women“. I dont mind Reading an english Book or watching an english movie, but an audiobook in a foreign langauage somehow takes more concentration. It seems to be a lovely Book. Makes you „as happy as a cricket“ as jo would say. Because it seems to be a book for younger readers i am most certainly wrong, but i wonder - the girls have Brown, red and blond hair - is there really just one father envolved 🤔
Hi, just found this group so here are my book recsThe golden key by George Macdonald
Day boy and night girl also by George Macdonald
The old man and the sea by Ernest Hemingway (not super old but it reads like an old book)
Twenty thousand leagues under the sea by Jules Verne (I haven’t read this one but it’s on my TBR)
Hi!I like that you recommend shorter books!
I‘ve read the old man and the sea and Jule verne (Journey to the Center of the Earth). I‘ve Never heard of george MacDonald, but i will certainly look out for him.
Are you european because most of your recommendations are?
Oh I’m so glad you like them but I’m not European I’m American and I’m an English major so I read a lot of books most of my favorites have been from European authors
Thats so fun! And Hanna, your trip sounds beautiful! (And... we think there's one father🤣 but who knows. Marmee must be hiding secrets!)
Welcome to the group S.J.! I also love 20,000 leagues under the sea and the old man and the sea!! (never read any of george mcdonalds work... but clearly I should!)

I have 3 more Hours to listen to of little women. It makes me think of little house on the prairie. Hartwarming and sweet.
I know the original meaning of „Gay“ and „queer“ is a different one than how i would use them today. I just Never heard someone use these words old fashioned. So when the queer Girls join all the gay parties my mind painted a picture (just one second) of jo and Beth joining the Rocky Horror picture Show… i Must have had a really weird look on my face at that Moment.
🤣🤣🤣
Honestly, jo is pretty gay and queer in the modern sense as well as the older sense, but that is actually so funnnnnyy

Jo Reminded me of Pippi longstocking a little. Amy reminded me of myself, we Are Both the last born child. But jo is my favourite character. I finished the audiobook. Thank you very much for that advice, i enjoyed it.
Now i am looking out for that scotish author.
On Netflix (at least in my Country) you can watch Little Women. I am certainly going to do that the next days. I Like Reading a Book and than watch the movie while grumbling about how bad the movie is compared to the book. 😅 we all Need a weird Hobby, don‘t we?
For sure! (I also have that hobby -if my favorite books have a movie, i will DEFINITLY watch it, only to hate on the movie🤣)
I always connected with jo the most- when i was younger, teachers thought i was the most frustrating person EVER, and I was also a tomboy for life😅
I'm trying to find your by Friedrich dürrenmatt, and i think I found an english translation! (im learning spanish, not german🫢)
so here i go!

I Read day Boy and Night Girl!I grew up with the original fairytales by brothers grimm (where cinderellas siblings cut off part of their feet to fit into the slippers). So i love These because its childhood Memory. As an adult i usually dont Like fairytales. They are too absurd. I started reading Tales of the thousand and one night and gave up on page 80. So many short storys which just seemed so random. Like from a childish mind.
But day Boy and Night Girl changed my mind completely. I read it on my phone (found a pdf in the Internet) and loved it the Moment she stepped outside. I love that bat girl. The way she describes water, her understanding of light und death. The ending was too much fairytaley (thats probably Not a word), but i‘d give it 5stars! Thanks for that advice!
I watched the First 45 minutes of Little women. Why are the children (aged 12-16) played by grown up women? So weird…

some of them are famous and i guess the directors just really liked how everybody worked together?

I just read „the sandman“ by e.t.a. Hoffmann. It left me … disturbed… maybe. I am not sure if i liked it. It is just a short story, one can read it in one sitting. If you like weird stuff - i usually do- it is a story for you! I have to sleep before i decide whether i enjoyed it 😂 i had the same feeling After watching „midsummer“. Unsettling.
I slept over it. I‘d give the book 4 Stars. Maybe the story deserves 5, but the book was written in 1816 - without proper grammar. This kind of language is so exhausting to read. I read the whole story out loud to be able to follow. Am i the only person who does that with these old texts or is that a normal thing to do - sitting alone on a couch and reading as if a child would listen, just for yourself ?
Nahh, thats normal. It can feel so cozy, especially if you don't have anything to do and its cold out❤️
I just read this book for one of my English classes it’s called the most dangerous game by Richard Connell it’s not necessarily an old book but it reads like one. It’s about this big time hunter who gets shipwreck on this island and he’s got to fight for his life.
hiii, I randomly found this group and I've been meaning to get back into reading classics soo here we aremy book recs are really basic but I love all kinds of "girly classics" so Jane Austen, little women or... the secret garden also? I read it a while ago and honestly don't have an opinion on it lol
honestly I might know more about contemporary Italian literature that anything else at this point 💔
S.j., your last recommendation was 5 Stars for me, so i will keep it in mind. I have so many Books on my shelf at the Moment! A lot more than usual😅Hi bea,
I am thinking about Reading Emma by Jane austen. Usually i am not that much into girlie Books, but pride and prejudice was a pleasent surprise. Is emma better or worse?
One of the books on my shelf is romeo and juliet. Even in english… i read it in school and remember that it was Full of swear words i didnt unterstand. But i am going to See the Musical „&juliet“ in a few weeks and i wanted to (at least try to) reread it. And i simply just have it in Shakespeare-british-english.
Welcome to the group, bea! even more people yay!!
lol, but no opinion on secret garden??? thats my childhood right there- No thats not sad shush!
Hanna you definitly should read emma! Its really funny, but maybe less good than pride and prejeduce...

Anyone ever Read Romeo and Juliet? (Wow, that rhymes…)In the First Act Romeo is hopelessly in love with another Girl called rosaline . Then he meets Juliet. And when he asks the priest to marry them he answers:
„Holy saint francis, what a change is here!
Is rosaline, whom thou didst love so dear,
So soon forsaken? Young men‘s love then lies
Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.“
Funny how the Story is so different in peoples minds - true love instand of Teenagers foolishness.
Just wanted to chare random thoughts you might find amusing.
I have! Its such a weird story sometimes...
The number of CRAZY interactions in that play is over the top. And just like you said - teenage drama is a MAIN feature of the book, despite the whole concept of "romance and tragedy"

I wanted to suggest the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I read that book before joking Goodreads, however I’m reading James at the moment and it is based off of the original and it reminded me of how much I enjoyed the book. Mark Twain also has The Adventures of Tom Sawyer which is also good but I found it a bit harder to read because of things like racial slurs and how characters like Injun Joe were portrayed.
Hi! I am new to the group and I would like to suggest the book 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'. I am currently half-way through the book and am really really enjoying myself. It is quite popular so you might have read it already but in case you haven't, I would definitely recommend giving it a read. And I am definitely open for chats about classics (I absolutely adore them) or maybe even any other genre of books(I am a voracious reader that read nearly everything)... I am really excited about potential, future discussions in this group!

Dorian gray is on my bookshelf as well! I did read it before, but it is several years ago, so when I saw it, I Took it again.
Oh and if you have the possibility to see the Musical „& Juliet“ - definetly do!! It is so made for the millenial Generation 😂 it became one of my favourite two Musicals

I started Reading dorian gray. I really dont Like Lord henry! I wouldnt want to be any younger than 25- when you are younger everything and everyone seems to be so important - exhausting! But 25 … I was effortlessly skinny, my breasts were definetly a bit higher than today and nobody was afraid of getting sick. Today the topic in conversation with friends is often illness, pain, difficulties of getting pregnant because of age. Thats definetly scary. I dont like lord henry😖
