The Amazing Vacation was recently brought to my attention on a "What's the Name of that Book?!" thread (thank you, Orsolya/Memp!). A portal fantasy from 1956, it's in the hundreds of pounds and very scarce... and has also been scanned onto OpenLibrary. So I can (when I find the time) read it FOR FREE. :)

So I just thought I'd highlight other vintage gems that can (still) be borrowed online for nothing. Please feel free to add any you'd recommend - would be nice to have them listed together.

Knee-Deep in Thunder is another, though it has been reprinted (I am currently reading a reprint). Credit to Sem for that one!

Also The Hounds of the Mórrígan. These are on OpenLibrary.

Red Moon and Black Mountain is also on OpenLibrary (thanks, Len!), and is on my to-read pile (which is impossibly large, but this is near the top). ;)

Thanks, Cheryl - I figured it was worthwhile rementioning free ebooks, because, thanks to a recent win for the 1% in the USA, a huge chunk of what was available online has been restricted.

Reprinted? No. Made available as a paid eBook, then? NO. Just bricked up. Because they can.

Jerks.

Miranty and the Alchemist, first published 1983, is available on OpenLibrary. Stayed up late last night reading it - was short and sweet. Thanks to Len for commending Vera Chapman to me! :)
