Play Book Tag discussion

This is a romantic magical realism story about several generations of women in the Roux/Lavender family, rumored to be witches. Broken hearted Vianne tries to protect her two unusual children from the world. Ava Lavender is born with wings, and Henry Lavender appears to be autistic with artistic talents. I enjoyed the lyrical writing and imagery in the story. I liked most of the characters, especially Ava’s friends and grandmother. The magical elements of the story didn't gel together for or me in a satisfying way, which kept me from giving it a higher rating, There is one major episode of violence that was disturbing. I think I would have loved this book more when I was younger or in a dreamier mood.

Most of the story is set in or near Seattle, Washington’s but the story has a very small town feel to it. The annual summer solstice celebration is a big event in the community, with several key events in the story occurring on those nights.

I see I gave it five stars, but to be honest I kind of forgot about the plot until I read your review. Not so memorable, after all.
