Emmy (emmy205) | 97 comments Not sure about the rest of you, but I'm very excited to read this one! I'm a huge fan of the author, Fr. Wetta and have all of his books. This one in particular is special to me since I read it at the very start of the 2020 lockdown. I remember loving it then, but I'm curious to see if my feelings are different now that the circumstances of my reading it have changed.

Emmanuel | 67 comments I'm reading it before "The Iliad" or "The Odyssey". People say "The Eight Arrow" got them interested in reading Homer, but I would be curious to know how reading those books beforehand would impact experiencing this one.

Emmy (emmy205) | 97 comments I read The Odyssey before I read this, and I had a general understanding of the Iliad. I look forward to hearing your insights on it :)

My agent kept insisting that the story should stand on its own. He kept making me rewrite it--and I'm glad.

Fonch | 2470 comments The Father Wetta 😍 i really enjoy of your story father. I dedicate a video in my YouTube channel in Spanish.

Fonch | 2470 comments It was my friend Jaime Blanch Queral who said to me that there was an spanish translation of "Eight arrow" i am a big admirer of the publishing Ignatius Press and i died for reading this novel. With publishing Erase translated into spanish was a Dream made reality. I will say to Jaime that the author is participating of the discussion of the book.

Emmanuel | 67 comments I've just realized that, in leading other Greek heroes and personalities and even mythological monsters out of the Underworld, Odysseus is, in a sense, redeeming Greek mythology under the orders of Our Lady, and using a bread that is an obvious representation of the Blessed Sacrament. What do you make of this?

message 9: by Augustine (new)

Augustine Wetta | 15 comments I never thought of redeeming the Greek characters, but you’re absolutely right about the bread being the Eucharist. Of course, just because I didn’t intend it doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

Jill A. | 911 comments It seems implausible Odysseus had never been on a horse before.

I don't understand why these two friends/companions keep attacking each other.

I don't understand how any of these can be living (leaving footprints).

Andrew Gillsmith | 101 comments Hi Father Augustine! Excited to read this book. I'm a parishioner at St. Louis Abbey and always enjoy your homilies.

Fonch | 2470 comments The book is really good Mr. Gillsmith on monday i will post the review of this book although i wrote some months ago.

Fonch | 2470 comments First of all, I would like to offer my sincere apologies to Professor Manuel Alfonseca because I had committed to writing a review of his book refuting Monod Jacques Monod (1910-1976). Estudio crítico de «El azar y la necesidad» (Colección Ciudadanía y Valores. Una lectura crítica al pensamiento actual), but I slept very little and needed to be fresh to be able to write it. In contrast, I offer this review of "The Eighth Arrow," which will also be shared with my friend, the writer Jaime Blanch Queral, because without him I would never have known that this novel was finally published by Érase in Spain. I hope you will accept this humble gift, made for the greater good of the Catholic Book Club and the author. I would also like to thank Emmy and Emmanuel for keeping the discussion of "The Eighth Arrow" alive, and Father Augustine Wetta and Andrew Gillsmith for their participation. I hope you enjoy it. P.S. I apologize that the hyperlinks in the Polish translation are missing. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Fonch | 2470 comments Just as was done with Mr. Andrew Gillsmith's book "Our Lady of the Artilects" whose discussion in The Catholic Book Club I highly recommend https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... I also take this opportunity to share with you the review that was made on my Youtube channel of "The Eighth Arrow: Odysseus in the Underworld, A Novel" and, if I ask my most sincere apologies for the fact that because of my inability with languages (I am a disaster) the video is only in Spanish and not in English https://youtu.be/lD3AyP1LQcc?si=m0OBg... I hope it can be useful to Father Augustine Wetta at least here in Spain and in Latin America. PS. I thank both Emmy and Emmanuel again in this discussion.

Fonch | 2470 comments By the way, I don't know if I've mentioned it, but Ulysses is my sister, Haunting Maggie,'s favorite character. She's a fan of Greek mythology, and her favorite goddess is Athena. I think she would have loved reading this book.

Fonch | 2470 comments In a few days, a review of a novel by a friend of mine that I recommend to this channel will be posted on Goodreads. She's a Cuban exile living in Germany and never misses any of my videos. I'm referring to the writer H.M. Martín, whose novel "Martin and the Order of the Boy Knights" MARTÍN Y LA ORDEN DE LOS NIÑOS CABALLEROS I highly recommend. P.S. The only bad thing is that it hasn't been translated into English yet.

Fonch | 2470 comments Well, finally, 100 messages have been posted about "La Octava Flacha." It wasn't bad at all. My congratulations to all the participants. It was a great discussion.

Fonch | 2470 comments I hope Father Wetta continues his work and dares to explore Purgatory and Paradise. It would be interesting to see those regions from a pagan's perspective.

Fonch | 2470 comments I wanted to end by thanking everyone who participated in the discussion of "The Eighth Arrow," and I hope we'll meet again for the discussion of the next book, "Elfling," in which I'll also participate. I'll write a review and make a video on my YouTube channel, "El rincón del bibliofilo." I hope we'll meet again for that discussion.
