Welcome to our Sept/Oct 25 buddy read of Mrs Pargeter’s Point of Honour Mrs Pargeter’s Point of Honour (Mrs Pargeter #6) by Simon Brett The sixth book in the Mrs Pargeter series was first published in 1998.

It’s a warm September afternoon when Melita is summoned to the grand Elizabethan manor home of genteel Veronica Chastaigne. Veronica is the widow of one of Mr P’s former associates. She’s anxious for Melita’s help in returning her late husband’s gallery of priceless ‘borrowed’ paintings to their rightful owners.

For Melita, it’s a point of honour to resolve any unfinished business her dearly departed husband left behind. She assembles a team of the late Mr P’s old crew, including Vanishing Vernon, Fritzi the Finger and Keyhole Crabbe, to carry out this reverse heist.

But when they arrive in a red Transit van to pick up the paintings, they discover that someone has beaten them to it!

Now it’s up to Melita to work out how to get the paintings back before the police catch up with her.

It’s all looking a bit too much.

But as usual, Melita has a trick or two up her sleeve . . .

Please do not post spoilers in this thread. Thank you.

Who is reading this one? I haven't started it yet, but am pleased to see from the introduction that the plot sounds different from the previous couple, which have been getting a little samey.

I am thinking about it. I've found the last couple a little boring. I will probably give it a try.

Separated for the weekend from my library books, old and new, I needed something short and light on my kindle. Mrs Pargeter fits the bill. This one is different and I recommend it. Even she is a bit tired of hearing raves about her husband. His compatriots are front and center.

Good to hear, Sandy.

Yes, thanks, Sandy, that sounds more promising than the last few, I will probably give this one a try!

More a crime caper than a mystery and quite amusing.

I've started and it's quite fun so far, though I do feel too many of Mr Pargeter's old pals have the same type of ridiculous nicknames!

I'm enjoying the dreadful inspector, Craig Wilkinson, and his attempts to make himself more like great fictional detectives by listening to opera or writing poetry!

I've finished this now - I enjoyed it more than the previous couple but was still a bit underwhelmed overall.

I have embarked on this one now after finishing the latest Erast Fandorin, which I really enjoyed. Not sure I am really into light and fluffy now, but I will see how I get on.
