I think it was a good book overall and action packed! I like that it was mermaids--there aren't too many YA mermaid books out there.

2. the king of Aquaticus

3. I felt some of the male characters in the book were really *emotional* to where it was distracting, but other than that I really enjoyed it!

4. It was impossible to predict until 2 chapters before the end, and I always love a good surprise. I'm enticed to read the next one!

5. sometimes it was hard to picture the under water world, but for the most part I think it was fun and interesting. I'm not usually into mermaid stories but this was fun and interesting. I would have liked more visual details and descriptions about the setting and how merpeople live (it felt odd toward the end when the narrator described being able to see so far from so high up and feeling dizzy from it. there's no danger of falling to your death, right? 🤷‍♀️). but it was overall a really fun read. ☺️

5. Overall, it was a pretty good book. I liked how creative it was and that it was set in a mermaid world. The plot was interesting at several points as well.

I thought I already answered these, but I guess I forgot. Let's see if I remember well enough and don't get book 2 mixed in with my book 1 thoughts...

1. Who was your favorite character?

Darin--I identified with his hesitancy to (view spoiler) I also loved how caring and full of integrity he was.

2. Who was your least favorite character?

Blackwell

3. If you could change one part of the book, what would it be? (Spoiler?)

(view spoiler)

4. What did you think of the ending? (Spoiler tags, please!)

I was horrified. 😭 Ok, I know that's a bit dramatic, but...

5. What was your overall opinion?

I really liked it. It's a light read, but one that still touches the heartstrings. I don't like fairytale retellings in general, but this was 300 years (?) later, so I was fine with it.
