it was my first Balzac, and now I'm committed to the whole Comedie Humaine!
so very much a "gateway drug" :oD

And then you realise that not all of the La Comedie Humaine is as good as Pere Goriot - in fact lots of it is mediocre. But I'm committed too!

I just finished it. The portrayals were, as always in Balzac's novels, great. Yet, I liked e.g. "Lost Illusion" more. And I found Goriot too annoying this time (my second read).
