She was nine the first time she stopped writing.
Not because she wanted to, but because she had to.
Those words had become a vise- tightening around her throat, strangling the air out of her.
She sat there, pen clutched in a shaking hand, as water fell on the page, blurring ink and memory alike.
Not that it even mattered anymore.
They were gone now. Her number one supporters. Just like that.
Outside, her relatively lingered on the porch, trading condolences like polite currency.
It's like they all forgot about her.
Not one of them wanted to take her in. After all, who would want to take in a selectively mute 9 year old with shaking hands and a hollow stare?
And just like that, the room that once held her stories and stargazer doodles became a cage,
Layla blinked back tears, but they slipped through anyway.
Black spots swam in her vision and slowly, it all became dark.
this is the plot:
At Darwin university, Layla is a quiet lit major- and anonymous, wildly popular romance author. She guards this secret really close and nobody knows that it's her behind the pseudonym (except for her best friend, Eliza). That is, until her lit professor assigns a project, which is a deep-dive character study on her (i.e. the professor's) favourite author, Alynna Meadows, which just happens to be Layla's pen name.
And then, there comes Theo, the captain of Darwin Storms and journalism major who is convinced that there is more to his favourite author, Alynna Meadows, and is determined to find out the truth about her. What he doesn't expect? Falling for the shy girl at the back of the class who seems suspiciously well-versed in Meadow's heart-wrenching prose.
