So I'm not sure when I'll be starting this one, but I plan on doing the audiobook narrated by Anne Hathaway. I'm excited about this version! This isn't the cover I see in audible, but is the right version. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
I should be starting in the next day or two! I am doing the version narrated by Tavia Gilbert. I really like her.
I'm excited to see how this compares to the movie. As a kid I used to watch the movie all the time. I would pause on the part where the Lion ran and jumped out the window. and hit the slow motion button and watch him jumping out the window in slow mo over and over again.
Also Wizard of Oz was the theme of my Bat Mitzvah. I wish i had the pictures of my sign-in board and center pieces. My mom and neighbor had a party planning business so they made all of my decorations. They were pretty awesome. My party favors were little stuffed lion piggy banks. I still have one upstairs.

I have this one for a book club, so right now I'm thinking I'll do this one (then Toto) next week. But I'll have to see how my challenges line up! ;)I actually own a version in audible that I have not listened to yet Narrated by Anne Hathaway! So I'm excited to listen to that version.
The Shoes in the book are Silver! I am guessing the movie changed them to Ruby so it would show brighter in Technicolor.
Jessica wrote: "The Shoes in the book are Silver! I am guessing the movie changed them to Ruby so it would show brighter in Technicolor."Yes! Probably. Interesting.
Jessica wrote: "This is a bit more violent than the movie."Really? I don’t think I would have expected that!
Jessica wrote: "Will comment more once you read it. Don't want to give away any spoilers."Ok, thanks! I only remember broad strokes of the story. Although, I did see Wicked once so my memory might be colored by that!
So, Jessica, how was the movie? I think you mentioned you were going to watch it today? I might not hold out for trying to use this in the challenge, so I might do this one in the next couple of days. If I do, I'll start adding comments as I go through it.
Update... I'm starting either tonight or tomorrow. Either way, I'll finish by tomorrow at some point. I'll update as I go!
Chapter 11 - I keep tripping up when I hear the reference to the woodsman. Every now and then, it'll say the tin woodsman, then I'm good. lol I am really loving Anne Hathaway's narration for the version I have!
I finished! I liked it. Quite a bit different from what I remember of the movie. Granted it's been years since I've seen it. I really enjoyed the narration for this one. I'm curious about the comments you said you hung on to until I finished.

A big one was that you don't even meet the Wicked Witch of the West until they go to kill her in the book, where in the movie she arrives when Dorothy is still in Munchinland. Also in the movie the wizard only requires the witch's broom, not her death.
I did really like "the extra part" in the book after the wizard leaves via hot air balloon. In the movie there is no Good Witch of the South. Well there is, but she is only mentioned once. The Wizard leaves the running of the Emerald City to the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion so they do not each get their own holdings

Again, my memory was fuzzy, but I thought that was much closer to the end of anything happening.
Jessica wrote: "the other big difference is that in the movie, Dorothy's adventure in Oz was all a dream."Ahh, yes. That was all missing! I forgot!
the one thing i did not like about the book is that i thought it ended really abruptly. other than that, i really enjoyed it. I am contemplating reading the 2nd one.

They way the Tin Man became the tin man in the book was definitely way darker. in the movie i think he was always made of tin,
