Challenge Complete: The Recipe Box by Viola Shipman
I’m not sure why I picked up this book; I wasn’t crazy about the first book I read by this author. Turns out, this one was very much like that one. Sort of sappy and clichéd. Like a Hallmark card, and just as predictable. Plus, I get it, you like Michigan.
It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if Sam had been at all likable. But she acts like a teenager, constantly changing her mind and not being able to stick to a plan. I’m really not sure why Angelo, the love interest, even likes her. She’s whiny and tends to lash out. I thought the grandmother’s back story was more interesting, but then it turns out that now she’s practically a saint.
About the only thing I can recommend about the book are the recipes. I’m going to copy some before I give the book away.
Went back to Dame Agatha Christie, since the first one I picked, Death by Darjeeling, turned out to be the wrong version. I accidentally picked an ebook by the same title, but NOT by Laura Childs. I was very confused, till I realized the issue. The one I started reading read like a review following the whole story, only with different characters. Was definitely not what I expected! Down right weird, actually. So grabbed the next in the Hercule Poirot series, The Murder on the Links and it was a fun ride. Lots of red herrings, and a satisfying conclusion. She never disappoints.
Challenge Complete:
A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna. A cozy fantasy with characters that I really enjoyed reading about.

Challenge complete!Read three cozy reads this month thanks to Prime:
Merry and Bright by Ali Rosen
All Wrapped Up in You by Rosie Danan
You Better Not Pout by Mia Sosa
Not overly impressed with these, but they were free Christmas romances with Prime reading (not Kindle Unlimited). Merry and Bright was the best of the three.
As of 5:40 p.m. New Year's Eve I am reading a cozy mystery, A Very Merry Murder by Kate Wells, but I'm not sure I'm going to get it done by the end of the night.
I am catching up on 2025 posting. CHALLENGE COMPLETE with The House of Hidden Meanings by RuPaul. My husband purchased this for me as an audiobook with one of his closely guarded Audible credits - just because he knew how much I love RuPaul and "I desire nice surprises." This will soon join my shelf as my #1 feel good book.
