I started this and her writing is exceptional! However, I don't read books that make light of pirates who are as bad as terrorists, so am going to pass on this. I will look for other books by her, though. Plus (view spoiler)
Here we are at the 15th of the month and discussion is now open.
This is such a unique and engaging tale. What were your thoughts about it?

I wasn't sure based on the title, but I ended up enjoying it. Just a little of the creepy for October, a mystery, a little romance. Sydney was funny, enlightening, naive, but yet had me smiling and laughing in places. She truly saw most things in life like the books she read. But she was a whiz at gears and levers. The way she came to people and made them comfortable, other than her rotten cousins, showed the heart she had.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved Sydney. And I loved all the clockwork gadgets in the house. I stayed up late last night to finish it.
Perhaps it's my own neurodivergence speaking, but did anyone else feel like Sydney (and perhaps Emmet) was on the autism spectrum?
I absolutely loved this book! All the fascinating steampunk/industrialist vibes, and the mystery, and the romance . . . ahh . . . it made my heart happy!

Yes I was thinking that. Especially Sydney.
I had a good time reading this one! I love the mystery and adventure of this story. I thought the Blakely house definitely gave off the creepy/whimsical vibes. I like Sydney in this story so much! Even though she was super smart she still had a giving and kind heart that just endeared me to her character. I also love Andre, Aunt Lottie and Angel. This book helped me to remember that I can trust God even when I feel scared and He will help me as long as I'm willing to take the first step!

It is 1901 when clockmaker and brilliant tinker Sydney Forrester inherits Blakely House, the eclectic estate of an estranged uncle she's never met. The well-known but mysterious industrialist has left behind a stunning array of peculiar inventions--and a couple of nephews intent on removing this interloper from the estate. Convinced that Sydney has something to do with their uncle's death, the late master's nephews contest the will and work against their cousin at every turn.
Sydney finds a sometimes-ally in the estate's butler, an ex-adventurer who ran aground on the island years ago. But when a mysterious man washes ashore with a stunning surprise that upsets everything, Sydney must prove she has inherited the late master's brilliance as well as his property--or someone else will.
