Welcome everyone! Excited to read with ya'll.

I'm not sure if there is really a strategy in this one or not, but I've been putting my books on random words at this point.

Not sure if anyone else realized it or not, but we can only play four lines of the song at a time.

I didn't realize this and thought we could use any of the words on the spreadsheet.

Just thought I'd pass this along since I missed this in the rules.

message 13: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3564 comments Thanks Jamie I also missed that!

Hey all! Someone asked this in a review thread so I figured it would be good to tell all the teams: for words with an apostrophe, you do not need a book with an apostrophe in it. So for example, for the word "winter's" you need to read a book with a title/authors name that contains the letters WINTERS but you do not need an apostrophe

message 15: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3564 comments My 2 books for line 1 are read and reviewed. I won’t be able to post til tomorrow though

message 16: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
Do you want me to post them Kim? No rush though. :)

message 17: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3564 comments Sorry just seeing this! Work was a day and I didn’t get to post. I can post in the AM unless someone else wants to, to get the next line going?

I added a column to our spreadsheet for if we posted on the review page or not.

Hopefully, this doesn't confuse anything, but I posted a book that doesn't work for any of the words we currently have available, and I don't want to lose track of it as books are added.

Ok guys, I asked for clarification on the rules. Below is my question and response.

Basically, we have to complete each block before we can move forward to the next block.

We will just have to keep track of the CR/Bank tab for future blocks and posting once we finish our current block.

This was my question:
Ok, so just want to clarify. In the rules it states that: Teams will be given the first four lines of their song to complete. And for every one of the lines that are finished your team will be able to work on the next line in the song.(lines do not need to be completed in order. But lines that you are given will go in order)

Even if you aren't showing the next line, we are still able to work on the next line if we have one line completed, right? Or are you saying that we have to complete the block and are not able to work on the next lines until the block is complete?

The response Saige gave back was:
I apologize, that line in the rules is poorly phrased and I'll go change it. Moving all of the teams one line at a time like that would get really confusing for me and for the SS, so we're going four lines at a time. You must complete the first block to move onto the next one.

@Kim - I added your book, Throne of Vengeance by Rina Kent on the CR/Bank tab. I put that you wanted to use for IF line 6 of the song.

After Saige's response above, I realized she hasn't counted it yet because we can't use it until we get to the next block of lines.

I'm hoping now that we've got this clarification, the confusion will go away some. Hopefully...lol

@Kala - I posted your Ice Land Barbarians by Ruby Dixon for day.

Hope that's ok.

We just need a book that fits 'Winter's' to move to the next block of lines.

message 25: by Kala (last edited Oct 13, 2025 12:39PM) (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments The team is always welcome to post my books. I'm not always at a computer so it's harder for me to format the review post. But I try to keep the spreadsheet current.

I also have winter's!

Formatting question. How do I make letters bold in discussions?

message 26: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
To make something bold, just put <'b> before the word and then <'/b> afterwards (don't put the '). You would replace it with U if you want to underline or I if you want to italicize something.

message 27: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
Ok, so I also just realized that we can spell more than one word with the same book.

I'm going to go through our books now that we have the next 4 lines available and see what we can use and how many words we can knock out.

message 28: by Kala (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments I would double check on using a book for more than one word. Only because in message 7 of the Q&A form Saige answered this question:

"Kai wrote: "Hi Saige! Thanks for hosting another challenge!
Do we only use one word per book?"

Yes! One word per book and one book per word, meaning you can't combine letters from multiple books to spell one word."

message 29: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
UGH...I'm reading into the rules it seems. I'm reading this example as saying you can use multiple, but I can now see I'm probably reading into it.

This is the example: The House of Leaves could be used for the entire word “leaves,” but could also be used for “are” by combining letters in the title and the author’s name.

message 30: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
I'll go back and correct the ones I posted with multiple words

message 31: by Kala (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments @Jamie I thought the same thing when I read that example. That you could use both the word Leaves and the word are from the book/author rearranging.

I feel like we are never going to get through a song lol.

Ok, I've added all the books that will work from the spreadsheet. I'll delete them once Saige approves them all :)

@Kim - Once you get your review done for Hidden Pictures, that one will work for 'such' in our current block of lines.

message 34: by Kala (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments I almost thought I had another winter's but then realized the book is only 76 pages. On to searching through my tbr to see if anything else matches lol.

Only 81 more books, we'll get there! I'll also be contributing more than 5 bpm. At first read of the rules I thought it was going to be a more selective challenge for books that would count. I thought you had to find at least one actual word in the book title that would fit in the song, and after that you could use a mix of letters to get a second word.

I can also post Outlander on the review tab. I have a habit of overthinking trying to get the best placement lol.

message 35: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
I already posted it Kala, so no worries. I don't mind posting them so if you don't have time or just don't want to, I get it.

message 36: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3564 comments Can’t believe I didn’t write my review! This is all set for Hidden Pictures.

Jamie, thanks for getting clarity on the directions. As seen by my posts, I was also unclear. Now that we know, we can crush it!

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
I forgot we could use any edition!!! I'll go through the books already on the sheet and see if any of them work in other editions :)

message 38: by Kala (last edited Oct 24, 2025 06:41AM) (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments Since I struggle with seeing all the letters and if they work I made a sheet in the spreadsheet for testing what words work with your title/author.

message 39: by Kala (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments Is anyone specifically working on books for our last 3 words? If not I can work on stopped, passed, and church and have the 3 books read by Monday night.

I just letting you guys know, that way you don't try and find something that works for those 3.

message 40: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
I'm reading two different books, but haven't looked to see if any of the editions work for any of them. I'll look tomorrow and see. I have a couple of hockey games tomorrow so I'm not sure how much reading I'll get done, and Dragonfly in Amber is a LONG audio. I'm anticipating having The Bridge Kingdom done either tomorrow or Sunday if everything goes as planned.

message 41: by Kala (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments I shall keep working on these 3. Just finished one and the other is a novella so the only one that'll take some time is for stopped.

But I'm happy chugging away for the next verse.

message 42: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3564 comments This is definitely the toughest challenge I’ve done so far in this group and I’m loving it! But also annoyed if I’m being honest haha. Go team!

message 43: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
At this point, I'm just reading what I have next because at some point one of these books will fit the harder words. And then once we get them done, we might have enough books banked to get the next 4 lines done lol

Kala was able to get 2 of these last 3 hard ones done. phew...

message 44: by Kala (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments I'm working on that last one and then we will be back able to use all the banked books.

This is definitely more of a having to plan for specific words challenge. But I am enjoying it, and glad I got to nerd out a little on excel lol

message 45: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
Love what you did with the spreadsheet Kala!!

I'm 100% a mood reader, so I struggle with plans on books. I tend to just read and hope it can be used at some point lol

message 46: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 5934 comments Mod
Thanks for posting those books Kala!

message 47: by Kala (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments You're welcome! =] I'm just glad we have movement again lol Now back to the BOTMs!

message 48: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3564 comments I found a cozy mystery with California in title on KU. I’ll start that now since I am also a mood reader and the books I’m currently reading are not hitting.

Also I’m jealous of your excel skills!!

message 49: by Kala (new)

Kala (randomkala93) | 282 comments I'm just glad I get to use them lol.

I just finished a book for California, but it also works for winters in the next set. So if you are still reading your California book, I'll use it on the next set.

I also plan to read Dead Until Dark at some point this week, which will work for the work such, just need a quick detour.

I don't feel overly rushed with this challenge because we can bank the books. Thankfully the reviews don't deteriorate over time.

message 50: by Kim (new)

Kim | 3564 comments Go for it! I’ll find something else to use it for. It is dragging
