What’s capturing your imagination as you wander through The Night Circus?

Is it the lush, dreamlike atmosphere, the rival magicians locked in their mysterious competition, or the hidden threads of romance running through the tents? Which images, themes, or characters are staying with you as you read?

Use this space to share your reflections, favorite scenes, or theories as you go — and remember to tag spoilers so everyone can enjoy the magic unfolding.

Im really enjoying this one so far...

Christine (goodreadscomcjrayl) | 2 comments I read this when it first came out so it has been a while. However, my impressions are such that I enjoyed the story and complexity plus it is well written.

LT | 7 comments I'm a library girl and this book was due Oct 8th. I had to check it out before I was ready, which means I ended up reading about 350pgs ON THE 8th! I'm sorry about that because the end of the book isn't really dialog, and really needed more time to digest. I may check it out again later just to reread that part!

This was one of the most descriptive books I've ever read, with reason. Like the clock in the courtyard, every detail, no matter how small, is important. The settings are the dialog, the circus the language the two MCs use to connect, quite literally. Conversations between characters is more about fleshing out what the reader had probably already figured out to some extent, but didn't feel redundant.

It is a love story but the passion you would typically expect is channeled into the circus, and tempered by the way too slow realization of the MCs as to how the challenge would end. The ending is somewhat less than satisfactory because it's atypical, so if you can fight past that, it sadly makes sense. This goes for the lovebirds, as well as everyone else touched by The Circus. The Circus is not just a venue; it's an alternate universe, a supreme being, a dream, a void... even a beast to be fed. You give your life to it and, in return, you don't get sick, you age very slowly, you can't have children... I don't think any of those folks knew this when they entered...at least Bailey was given a choice. (The difference between having two narcissistic, sadistic arseholes who care for no one but themselves, running The Circus through their competition versus being run by people who live the life and understand The Circus.)

I was surprised once in the book...if you know, you know. I cried a little...
