Nominations for November are Open

I'm going to go out on a limb here and nominate A Murder of Hate, a crime thriller written by Ugandan author, Yasin Kakande. It is set in the US but the murder itself brings to the forefront the culture and issues within Uganda and between Uganda and the rest of the world - mainly politics and large corporations driving those politics. Sound familiar?

How about The House of Doors by Tan Tan Eng (Malaysia)
It was on the Booker Long List in 2023 or 2024. Seems to get decent reviews.

The House of Doors takes place in the Straits Settlement of Penang, which is located off the west coast of Malaysia. The novel centers on a famous British author, W. Somerset Maugham, and a few historical events that occurred in the early 20th century within Penang and other parts of the region.
The story explores the lives of the British colonial community in Penang during the 1920s, as well as the revolutionary activities of Sun Yat-sen and a sensational murder trial. The island's unique cultural richness serves as the backdrop for these intertwined stories.

Also, does anyone know of a book from Yemen? Would love to get that one off my list.

That was a tough one. I read A Land Without Jasmine by Wajdi Al-Ahdal. The good news is that it is only 82 pages long. The bad news is that I disliked it so much that although I finished it, I didn't rate it.

Oh, that one looks really good! I can't use it for Yemen because my personal challenge is that the author has to be from Yemen but for anyone else who is also using the setting, this one would be perfect. This author was actually born in the US.

I read The Monk of Mokha for Yemen and really enjoyed it!

My reading list is full of booker/Giller nominees in November and there are 3 nominees already so I'll hold off for this month.

I loved The Monk of Mokha by Dave Eggers.

A phenomenal woman who did much for Nepal's youth. I just read about Olga in The Soul of a Woman by Isabel Allende (although NOT Reading the World qualified, the book is fantastic).
