I've heard such mixed reviews about this book; if anyone's read it, can you tell me if it's worth it?

I would recommend it. I loved the writing and the characters. I also found the premise pretty interesting. I ended up rating it 4 stars, although i have yet to pick up the sequel (it seems sort of unnecssary to me)
