One of the reasons I wanted to read this novel is because I'm a fan of Dungeons and Dragons and I longed for a world with elves, dwarves, halflings, and dragons, which is why I so desperately wanted this book to be chosen.

Are they similar, or are there differences, or both?"There's a novel called "The Broken Sword" by Poul Anderson in which elves are amoral and closer to paganism than Christianity. This novel inspired Michael Moorcock's amoral Elric Melnibonélainen novels. Also in a counter-intuitive vein to Tolkien is Sally Scott's novel (I made a video on this topic) called The Elven Princess La princesa de los elfos , in which the elves were more sinister.
Lord Dunsany's The King of Elfland's Daughter elves are also somewhat different from Tolkien's, and the house elves in Harry Potter Series Box Set.
